Hello, I am Olga Koelsch!


I'm a watercolor artist, book author, and educator based in Bergen, representing Norway in NAS (Nordic Watercolor Society). My journey with watercolor began in 2016 with a simple set of paints. Within a year, I made significant progress in botanical illustration and participated in key botanical exhibitions across the UK, USA, and Japan. By 2018, I began experimenting with modern watercolor techniques, particularly focusing on transparency and expressiveness, which led to my first custom orders.

Today, I'm a full-time artist, with my work featured and licensed globally, including collaborations with Hobby Lobby, Home Decor, Next, and Karen Millen. I am proud to be a Resident Artist at Arches and an Ambassador for Princeton Brush, Maimeri, Canson, and Daler-Rowney.

As an educator, I've had the privilege of teaching students from around the world, sharing my passion for watercolor. The course contains 32 lessons across 11 modules and about 7 hours of teaching—designed to take you step by step from basics to beautiful finished paintings.

We’ll start with the foundations: materials, brushstrokes, washes, water control, and simple composition.

Then, we’ll explore each element of the landscape in depth — painting water, reflections, mountains, trees, skies, light, and even snowy scenes.

From there, you’ll bring everything together with three full practice sections: misty mountains and gentle skies, rocky shores with moody skies, and finally, a golden-hour lavender field.

You’ll learn through both dry and wet-in-wet techniques, color mixing for mood, and layered approaches that make your landscapes glow with atmosphere.

And to make things even easier, you’ll get downloadable references, a materials list with paint alternatives, and English subtitles for every lesson.

By the end, you’ll not only have multiple finished landscapes, but also the confidence and freedom to paint expressively, in your own unique style.

We’ll start from the foundations: a quick intro to watercolor, essential tools and paints, brushwork basics, dry brush and graded washes, how water, paper and pigments interact, practical water control, plus simple composition for landscapes.

Most of the course is hands-on painting. Lessons progress from easier to more advanced projects—covering water and reflections, mountains, trees, skies and atmosphere, light (sunrise, sunset, night scenes), and snow—so you can steadily master techniques and finish a beautiful piece after each class.

By the end, you’ll have a toolkit of expressive watercolor skills, multiple finished landscapes, and the confidence to paint with freedom and joy. We’ll also bring everything together in five complete atmospheric scenes with distinct moods and color stories.
